$171,270 vs $104,110
Architectural and engineering managers vs mechanical engineers, median annual wage, May 2025 (BLS)

Significant company announcements, with the figures and sources behind them.
About 9% of its workforce
The company announced cuts across its global workforce. Its filing does not identify how many engineering roles are affected.

Eligibility for an exit offer, not confirmed departures. The offer covers participating teams in four countries; Microsoft confirmed the eligibility count to GeekWire.
Sources checkedAbout 9% of its workforce
A global reduction planned to be substantially complete by the end of Q1 2027, subject to local requirements and business needs. This is an announced plan, not a completed-cut count.

From public dataAimvane’s reading
$171,270 vs $104,110
Median annual wage in May 2025: architectural and engineering managers, $171,270; mechanical engineers, $104,110. Aimvane reads the gap as the market paying for held decisions rather than for analysis alone.
What it does not show: Occupation medians, not an offer or a cause: management is one kind of decision seat, and these statistics do not measure technical release authority on its own.
An agency’s estimateProjectionAimvane’s reading
485 TWh → 950 TWh
The IEA estimates that data centres used about 485 TWh of electricity in 2025 and projects about 950 TWh by 2030, roughly double. Aimvane’s reading: the cooling, power and hardware behind that load are engineered, commissioned and kept running by people accountable for them.
What it does not show: An estimate and a projection, not a forecast of jobs. The IEA describes its central case as close to the trajectory set out in its 2025 report.
A vendor’s own claimAimvane’s reading
Agents inside hardware workflows
Engineering software now ships AI agents that, in its maker’s own description, carry out engineering work inside hardware development workflows. Aimvane reads this as the fault line: seats valued for analysis throughput are substituted, while seats valued for judgment, accountability and release authority are amplified.
What it does not show: A vendor’s description of its own product, paraphrased, not an independent measurement; the substitution reading is an inference that Aimvane checks per destination against cited sources.
No seat is safe from AI, and Aimvane calls none “AI-proof”. It checks each destination against cited sources and shows what would change the reading.
HOW IT WORKS
One guided flow. A seat is a role defined by the decisions it holds. You control the facts and the choice; the market evidence stays inspectable.
Upload PDF or Word, or paste your notes. Review your projects, answer the few questions that change an interpretation, and approve the literal facts. They are the only personal evidence Aimvane uses.
Aimvane derives up to three destinations from your approved evidence and researches each from public sources, without your résumé. Each is ranked twice, side by side: how good the seat is (what you’d get to decide and sign off, how long it holds up, how high it goes) and how far your evidence is from its missing rung, the next responsibility your evidence does not yet show. You choose; Aimvane never folds the two into one number.
See which decision your evidence does not yet show, choose an assignment that earns it, aim it at a real open role if you like, and record what would invalidate the path. Aimvane uses your résumé lines word for word; it does not add experience you did not approve.
